What is Give United?
Give United is a one-day online fundraising event hosted by the United Way of Smith County that takes place on #GivingTuesday (Dec. 2nd in 2025). All participating nonprofits are vetted, long-term partners of the United Way, that are making a major impact in Tyler, Texas and our surrounding communities. You can choose one or several Smith County-based nonprofits to support, and 100% of your donation will go directly to them.
What is Giving Tuesday?
We all know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday, when we all shop for holiday gifts to find the best deals. But, what about supporting our community? Giving Tuesday is a national effort launched in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past several years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
Are there any fees taken out of my donation?
No! The United Way of Smith County ensures that 100% of your gift goes directly to the nonprofit of your choice. Donors can elect to cover their transaction fees, but the United Way of Smith County will cover any fees that remain at the end of the day.
I see there is a $100,000 match! How does that work?
Any gift made through this website on December 2, 2025 will be eligible for $100,000 in matching funds. On December 3rd, once everyone has had their chance to make a gift, the United Way of Smith County will hold a drawing to randomly select the transactions that get matched. Matching funds are provided by the United Way of Smith County and Express Employment Professionals.
There are two limits to this match:
1) Up to $2,000 matched per individual transaction.
2) Up to $20,000 matched for a single nonprofit.
When will the total raised be announced?
As soon as all donations are confirmed, the total raised will be announced through a press release and on United Way’s social media channels. Participating nonprofits will be notified via email by the end of the week with donor contact details and matching payout information.
When will the participating nonprofits receive their donations and matching funds?
Our goal is for 100% of all contributions and matching funds to be paid out as a lump sum to the nonprofits before the end of the calendar year. We must get through a full billing cycle for all online transactions to clear and then process the payments to each nonprofit.
Can I donate offline as part of Tyler Gives?
While we certainly won’t discourage any type of gift on Giving Tuesday that is helping our local nonprofits, we can only match online transactions for this specific event made directly on our GiveUnitedSmithCounty.org platform. Online transactions are time stamped, allowing us to allocate the $100,000 matching funds in a fair way.
